with executives of the Information Technology and Business Process
Management (IT-BPM) industry in the country.

Mayor Belen T. Fernandez fervent hopes that her constituents can get a share in the mammoth U.S $25 billion industry and create 5,000 direct jobs in the next three years in the City.
One of the most dynamic and fastest growing sectors in the Philippines,  the industry is composed of eight sub-sectors, namely, knowledge process outsourcing and back offices, animation, call centers, software development, game development, engineering design, and medical transcription.

Joining Mayor Fernandez in the IT-BPM Conference held at the world class Stadia here were Jonathan De Luzuriaga- President of the Philippine Software Industry, lawyer Jocelle Sigue- Board of Trustee of the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines, Paul Tajon-Senior Investment Specialist, Alvin Juban- President of the Game Developers Association of the Philippines, Natalie Hunter- Executive Director of the Philippines Software Industry Association.

Students from different colleges and universities were part of last Friday's Conference as the mayor embarked on a mission of creating the City's ICT-Business Process Management Industry.
The mayor's goal was to give Dagupenos another avenue to showcase their talent and improve the quality of life they lead. She cited that she cannot wait for that day to come when Dagupenos no longer need to go outside to seek work.
The Department of Information and Communications Technology has observed that Dagupan and the rest of Pangasinan produce yearly at least half of Region 1’s higher education graduates.

"It is now time to start showing them that our talent pool can also compete with the best in the national and global IT-BPM industry. I am appealing to you to help our City in this initiative, I will return the favor by making sure that your local government will utilize its available resources to strengthen your linkages to the industry, keeping you abreast of trends and to provide an environment where the Academe community, Industry players and the local government can freely collaborate," the mayor stressed.

Fernandez said that if she  and the ICT-BPM stakeholders  succeed,  they might even extend this opportunity to other Pangasinenses because of the enormous job generation potentials of this industry.
