HAMBAL NI LUVIN CANDARI: Pnoy is against charter change, he is afraid that not only the restrictive economic provision will be touched but also the form and structure of government, the term limit, the anti dynasty provision will be revised, amended or changed. Why oh why? If he has no other agenda than the good of his people. Isn't it about time that we netizens must once again tell Pres Pnoy that indeed, charter change is now. 1Like · · Share Pearl Alba-donapel, Rolly Coronica and Rotacio Gravoso like this.

Mortz C. Ortigoza Sa Charter Changed dapat ibalik ang U.S Bases tapos asked the Americans to put the base in Palawan.  Mortz C. Ortigoza @Alex, the right term there is alliance with the Americans. Without them, expect intrusions of the Chinese. Wala sang will ang gobierno implement sang family planning sadto. Damo Foreign Direct Investment sa Asian neighbors naton while we groped in the dark about our galloping unemployment nga ang solution sina amend lang ang 60-40 xenophobic ta nga equity against sa foreign investors. With the Americans here, expect more economic and military aid to buttress our fledgling AFP. May 28 at 8:04am · Like · 2

Alex Casiple@Luvin: Amo ina ang principle sang soft power. Mars, daw problema gid sang US ang China kaysa problema naton. Waay man ta iya daku nga utang sa China.

Mortz C. Ortigoza @Alex , hahaha. For example incursion nila karon with warship na guarding their more than 50 fishing vessels sa Reed Bank, about 80 nautical miles west of Palawan island at the southwestern end of the Philippine archipelago.
Clear and present danger? kabalo man ta kun sin-o ang mahilig maggyera sa iban nasud. not China, soft power iya strategy sina unless kambyuhan nya ang "dams not bombs policy".
"Encroachment" is just an illusion. They are already inside, dugay na, unarmed but not dangerous, first shaped our one China policy just like the rest of the world, then bombarded us with cheap goods, penetrated the ranks of our tycoons with a maze of interlocking investments in our top corporations. They did that successfully with out firing a shot. And that is soft power. May 29 at 12:41pm · Like

Candari Luvin It is interesting to compare US and China's influence. Assuming we will be under either of the two super powers, which one would uproot us from kapobrehon? May 29 at 12:55pm · Like

Mortz C. Ortigoza @Alex, inang incessant encroachments i.e bullying sang China, majority sang Filipinos are scandalized and threatened about that. That would be a rallying point for them to call and ratify for a Charter Change. Besides, presence of the U.S military would be a deterrence to China to come to her senses that her capability vs. the U.S is still backward.
 Options diri: 1) International Mediation (China doesn't want it even it is a signatory of United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea UNCLOS);
2) Bilateral (Patay ta da, they would bully us, Bakit Bilateral e mi arbitrary bodies kita like UNCLOS, International Court of Justice?).
Pamangkot ko: So ok lang sa imo inang patent ang blatant encroachments nila (Navy and civilian ships) by not only threatening (firing shots) Filipino fishermen but occupying some shoals and islets under our EEZ? May 30 at 8:43am · Edited · Like

Alex Casiple Its how we will handle the issue. If we chose to meet force with force (not even our own force) then whose interest do we truly serve above all?
After propping up dictators in the Middleeast then overthrowing them when they become intolerable, they are coming to Asia. The next question is why cant we be "brave" to confront Malaysia as we are with a more powerful China?
This double standards only shows that we are toeing some interests more than our own. Taiwan recently has shown us how to be bullied (militarily and economically) in the truer sense of the word. Where is US in the equation? Nada because Taiwan is not China as Malaysia is not China also.
Are we really fighting for our sovereignty or we are actually helping US to lay the foundation for the write off of its huge foreign debt from China?
Ti pili ta, sa mas gamay okon daku nga gamo?! Sa certified war freak or sa pretending to be war freak? whatever, basta indi lang ta mahimo nga ilintoon. May 30 at 9:42am · Like

Mortz C. Ortigoza @Alex he he.inang issue ta sa Malaysia kag sa Taiwan, minuscule diplomatic row ina where involvement of the U.S military is not needed. Inang China factor is big deal ina sa U.S, Japan, South Korean, Australia because trillions of dollars of trade pass sa international water sang South China Sea. Inang intrusions or/and occupations nila sa aton, sa Senkaku/Diaoyu  Islands sa Japan, and those owned by South East Asian neighbors threatened the international community. Common sense ina lex nga ang U.S military focuses now its attention , basi pila ka adlaw kontrollado na sang intsik ang international water sang SCS - ma undermine ang trade sang tanan. Res Ipsa Loquitor (thing speak for itself) China ang bully sa SCS, not U.S. Inang conspiracy theory nga write off sang international debt sang U.S sa China, thats ridiculous. Speculation lang ina. May 30 at 10:00am · Like · 1

Alex Casiple Follow history. World Wars and Great Depressions. China has not dropped a single bomb in foreign country since its march to become the world second biggest economy, next to US bisan number 1 lubong sa utang sa number 2. So mas speculative nang it will control militarily the sea lanes, indi na niya comfort zone. Power is measured by bits and bytes na subong. Superb minds lay traps (incluidng debt trap), giving bullies a chance to show their strength in desperate bids to free themselves from the traps. Amo na sitwasyon sang duha. To make it simple: Chess and hampang subong, ang expertise sang US, hemorrhage proof-wrestling. Bisan ano mo kabakol ulo niya, waay tana ga blood clot. hehe! May 30 at 10:25am · Like

Mortz C. Ortigoza @Alex, simply ang issue diri lex. If possible U.S wants to maintain the global economic status quo. It was China that keeps provokingl through intrusion (Question: Have you taken tabs how many times China intruded and occupied some islets that belong to Philippines (so far tatlo of our islets/shoals  Panatag or Scarbourough Shoal, Meiji Reef, and Thomas Shoal naton kuha na nila isa dira pinakamalapit sa Zambales?) and Vietnam. Karon kung ako ang Pilipinas that is poorly armed, expected ina nga mapalapit ako sa U.S up to the extent invite her to put bases here. Believe me, the more Chinese encroachments are seen on TVs, the more the Filipinos gravitate for the U.S presence. Rallying point ina sa Charter Change not the abollition of the 60-4O that Mario "Cristo sa Bulangan" Maaya shouts. Everybody is scandalized and threatened by the Chinese bullying except your group in the Left. Friday at 8:58am · Edited · Like

Alex Casiple Just think why we chose to "lie low" over Sabah because we dread war and we know evedrybody is loser there except the arms traders. Think also of,what if Asia will be the new middleast and Pinas as the new Iraq - an old civilization destroyed by modern and official lies propped up by mainstream media. What your group in the Right think about that? By the way the Philippine Left in general hates the capitalist roader China. Only that they hate US more. Both for ideological reasons. And maybe for practical reason: choosing between the devil and the deep blue sea. Me, for as long as China thrives with soft power, Im her fan. I favor chess over wrestling. Congrats to us, NEDA said Pinas had overtaken China in terms of 1st quarter growth, mind you, that happened without the US bases. We just have to believe in ourselves and throw away that idea that we could not develop without Uncle Sam.. Friday at 9:48am · Like

Mortz C. Ortigoza He he don't glorify that 7.8 percent growth in the 1st quarter. wala iyan! More than 2 million pa rin ang unemployed naton notwithstanding the underemployed and the millions nga OFW abroad. kulelat pa rin kita sa snaring game sang direct foreign investment .
Lex question ko sa imo:Philippines got only a sluggish $1.5 billion foreign direct investment, while fellow South East Asian countries Singapore and Indonesia hosted U.S $54 billion and US $19.2 billion in 2012, Is not Uncle Sam and its huge market the driver why China, Singapore, and Indonesia economically progress? Kung bebelieve tayo sa sarili naton without Uncle Sam, North Korea and Cuba ang labas naton - ideal countries of the Left in the Philippines.
He he I would go crazy on this. Friday at 10:02am · Edited · Like

Alex Casiple Thailand did it on their own and without the military bases. Cuba is not a rich country but a decade after it was abandoned by Soviet Union it became the healthiest nation, again on its own. No need to tell, China eradicated absolute poverty as well on its own after it "invaded" US without firing a shot or soft power (debt trap). Singapore on its own also, without a US military base. Subic prospered after the pull out and the rabid pro US base Richard Gordon could not believe he "kuno" made it, without the bases. Tama ka Mars, growth is just the first step, next is is how to make it inclusive so absolute poverty will be eradicated as well. And yes, our foreign policy should be in the economic realm not military. The current nexus of global economic growth is Asia, no need to militarize it.
US as an economic partner, why not? As a military partner, basi mahimo ta tuod nga gateway of hell. Peace is of the essence. US need to be detoxified from militarist delusion of grandeur in its foreign policy. FOR SALE: Mayor, Vice Mayor, Dads

BY TOTO MARCELO ORTIGOZA

The other day I was with a political operator where we dropped by at the session hall of a first class town in Pangasinan. We found the vice mayor there exchanging pleasantries with reelected councilors who are scions of multi-millionaire families in the town.
Some of them spent millions of pesos through vote buying and dole outs just to win their reelection bid in an office that gives them roughly P30, 000 a month salary only.
“Please tell your father that you run for the PCL (Philippine Councilors League-Pangasinan Chapter) so that you can be a member of the provincial board,” the operator told a young councilor whose father is a big time government contractor.
“Magkano ang bilihan ng boto para manalo manong (how much we are going to spend to buy votes to win the PCL, big brother)”?
My operator friend told him and his curious colleague in the august chamber that the province has 44 towns.
He explained that the trade dictates that he has to dine and wine the mayor, vice mayor, and eight dads of the town in a plush restaurant or hotel to ingratiate with them before he shells out the following amount: Mayor, P20, 000; Vice Mayor, P15, 000, Each of the eight councilors, P10,000 or a total of P5,720,000. “Lalaki pa iyan pag iyong rival mo offers the same amount (Your P6 million spikes if your rival for the PCL offers the same amount),” the operator explained.
Now dear readers you wonder probably what the heck happens to a solon spending millions of pesos for a position that gives only a P40,000 monthly salary in his three years stint at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (provincial board)?
My answer: Prestige man, that stupid prestige!
 ***

After he was proclaimed as the winning congressman in the first district of Pangasinan, reelectionist Rep. Jesus “Boying” Celeste was asked at the Capitol Compound in Lingayen, Pangasinan what he and his brother mayor –elect Art Celeste will do to the “dugyot (Pangasinan word for filthy) ” Hundred Islands (H.I) in Alaminos City. “Kung dugyot iyan ngayon, lilinisan natin!” he declared.
My two cents worth of advice to the solon is privatized or leased to investors the islets there.
With each of them occupying a piece of the scenic spots, they would be improving them that eventually become a draw for  more tourists to go there just like what happened in Boracay and in Ilocos Norte.
Of course they should be privy about the law that protects the marine life there like the giant clams and corrals.
The decision of outgoing Mayor Nani Braganza to take the yeoman’s job in running the H.I from his city’s limited budget has been the reason the spot becomes a “kulelat (laggard)” compared to other tourist destinations in the country.
With the deep pocketed private investors propping up to make the island as major players in the national tourism industry, multipliers effects would follow suit not only to the benefits of Alaminos City but the province of Pangasinan.
For starters, the Celestes should collaborate with Governor Amado T. Espino, a stickler of what is spic and span, who was the brain behind the turn-around of the beach and the free sheds at the Capitol ground that make them a magnet for tourists.
Aside from the anarchic arrangement of the Lucap Wharf in Alaminos City, critics said it stinks as islets there have no toilets. As what the Latin words say “Res Ipsa loquitour (the thing speak for itself). You can read my selected columns at http://mortzortigoza.blogspot.com and articles at Pangasinan News Aro.
